Economist World in Figures App Reviews

Big dissappointment

This has nothing to do with their 2011 yearbook. Most numbers are from 2008 and even older. The data are not always marked clearly and there are occassional errors. The interface is very amature. Shame on you the Economist!!! Dont waste your dollar on this. Not worth even a cent.

Very nice app if you are stuck in 2008 & cant seem to get out!!!

This app is a total waste of money. All the information is outdated (2008). Furthermore, the compare tool works for certain countries only. Dont buy it. IThere should be some refund policy not for the value ($0.99) but for the principle. Deleted it after 10 minutes.

Confusing

Nothing compared to the CIA world fact book

More of a history book

Nice concept but this is a joke to have mostly 2008 data in a 2011 app! Its useless. I can find much better and updated data with a few clicks on the web. The Economist should be ashamed at trying to pass off repackaged stale data like this. 99 cents or free, its still a disappointment. Dont waste your money.

Data is just no longer relevant.

Almost all of the facts/data in this application is outdated. It wouldve been much more informative and useful if they actually used relevant facts from 2011.

Fantastic potential

Great potential, but in this age there is no excuse for there outdated data in most categories. Census data only comes every decade, but most data turns over much more rapidly. There really isnt an excuse for this. It makes no sense why the economist would do this.

Facebook sharing a joke

I really like the application (altough some data is indeed outdated) However, FB sharing is downright impossible. By default all data (e.g the first 20 countries based on "Tax Wedge") is copied as a status update. FB limits the length of such an update well below the length of the copied text. If one wanted to post it she would have to delete 3/4 of it which is a royal pain on a mobile device. Apparently this feature was not tested at all.

disappointing

this publication, in print, is always one of the most fun books to rifle through randomly-the perfect book for the privy. having an e-edition w/ranking, comparison & search, as well as the expectation of more and more current data fed live from the web was exciting enough to think about giving up competitive Scrabble(tm) on the crapper. Sadly, this 1st version only shows some promise on search, comparison, and rank. The data is old and not complete across all countries. Also, most unforgiveable: font size is not adjustable up or down, and text that is too long cannot be scrolled or even clicked into to read. Provenance and better data descriptions would be very useful as well.

Sadly Wikipedia is more useful...

Dear Sir, What happened? ;-( the figures are outdated... Why even sell this? You should be ashamed of yourself. Sincerely, Sad and perplexed

Desperately needs more units

For example, the US has the lowest level of brain drain with 6. 6 what? Some of the data is needlessly out of date. US unemployment is noted as 5%, 2008 data is woefully misleading there. Now that the Wolfram Alpha app is out, anyone can get up to date comparison information on their phone instantaneously, this app is guaranteed to be out of date and unnecessary in comparison.

Waste of money...even 99c

Love the economist - Ive subscribed for ages. Hate the app.

Great app for playing with and visualizing world data

The interactive charts in the compare tool are really cool, and the trivia is random and funny. Definitely worth the 99 cents!

Needs some work

Show units Update it But great idea! It has potential

Waste of an app

I dont understand how such large players in the media game could come out with such a garbage app. Poor design. Poor organization. I could have missed it, but also there is no way to enlarge to full screen, so the display area is tiny and you need to keep scrolling all over the place. Yes you can double the viewing area, but that just doubles the font size. The end result, you can only view six or seven lines of a list at a time. Oh, theres a sloppy built in feature, that displays lists in bar graph format if you rotate the screen to landscape mode. The problem is the programmers put the feature in on every list. So, for example, looking at the spaceflight mission list in landscape mode, you see rows of meaningless bar graphs, and the years of missions (eg 1957) appear with commas in them (eg 1,957). I also just tried the public debt info, and no numbers are displayed at all in portrait mode. Very sloppy. The little print book is much better. Very dissapointing. I really wish i could get a refund.

Out if date

Useless as most of the data is years out of date. I am deleting it.

Wish could be improved

Badly programmed. But good vision. Expect upgrade.

App needs lots of work.

When is a new version coming? This one cuts names and text, regions fields are wrong and has many other obvious flaws.

Aiming to the right target... but needs work

Waiting for an update. The information here is valuable. But from the programming standpoint needs more work. More correlations, graphs, easy access.. trivia not a priority can make of this application a real HIT!

Rubbish rip off

The bulk of the data is 2008. Dont buy it. Apple needs to create a returns policy.

Worthless trivia

Does anyone really care if "Columbia is the worlds 50th biggest emitter of carbon dioxide?"
